The difference between freshwater pearls and seawater pearls

There are two types of pearls, one produced in the deep sea, so called seawater pearls; one produced in lakes, known as freshwater pearls. Due to differences in growth environment, growth time, and culture methods, there is a big difference between them.

The difference between seawater pearls and freshwater pearls:

Shape: Freshwater pearls are varied in shape, mostly round, with rice, semicircular, flat, pear-shaped, etc., while seawater pearls are only round.

Size: Seawater pearls are generally larger than freshwater pearls. The diameter of pearls in seawater pearls is generally 6 to 7.5 millimeters. The particles of freshwater pearls are much smaller.

Gloss: Freshwater pearls have a good gloss and look like pearls, while seawater pearls are generally less glossy.

Density: General seawater pearls have a lower density than freshwater pearls;

ç‘•ç–µ: There are few spiral patterns of sea pearls, freshwater pearls are common;

Feel: The feel of seawater pearl is relatively delicate, the feel of freshwater pearl is coarse, and there is a feeling of astringent;

Yield: Generally only three pearl seawater mother pearls produce a pearl, and a freshwater pearl mother shell can form about 20 pearls;

Kernel: The freshwater pearl has no nucleus and is the best raw material for beauty pearl powder. The seawater pearls are mostly made of cores, and most of them are relatively regular, so they are often used as accessories or jewelry.
