Waterproof fabric how to test?

Good quality waterproof fabrics are able to withstand the pressure of water seepage without seeping for a long time in a humid climate environment.

For example, if you walk outdoors in wind and rain for a long time, you may not seep through or sitting on wet ground.

Waterproof fabrics are generally divided into PTFE, FEP, PFA, ETFE several basic types of general TPU high permeability film to do three-in-one (surface fabric + film + lining) can only reach 5000 moisture permeability.

Waterproof fabric how to detect it?

Waterproof fabrics are common fabrics for outdoor clothing such as Jackets.

Waterproof fabrics have a variety of detection methods. This article only briefly introduces the most commonly used methods and the most accurate detection methods.

At present, the most commonly used methods for the detection of waterproof fabrics at home and abroad are the standard of the American Institute of Materials Testing, which is the standard method of water vapor cupping and Japanese industry standards .

The United States has always been in the leading position in the waterproof fabrics industry, and the country's market is also very large. The data for this method test is relatively high, and the astm standard naturally becomes the most commonly used method.

Most customers now use this method for testing.

Water Vapor Cup Test Principle The fabric to be tested is covered on a moisture permeable cup filled with distilled water. After being fixed, it is inverted. The weight is weighed using a top-loading balance with an accuracy of 0.001 g, and it is placed in the location of the row of wind tunnels. on.

The temperature and relative humidity of the environment were recorded before the cup was weighed in an environmental room with a temperature of 23° C., a relative humidity of 50%, and a wind speed of 2.5 m/s.

Each cup's weight and weighing time are recorded. The weights at 3h, 6h, 9h, 13h, 23h, 26h, and 30h were recorded and the water vapor transmission rate was calculated using the formula wvt=24*Δm/(s*t). The average of 6 samples was used as a result of the test. The average value was multiplied by 24 and converted to results in g/m2*24h.

Waterproof fabrics have the properties of oil repellency, water repellency and water pressure resistance.

The highest test result of this fabric test is JIS L-1099 B1, B2 Japanese Industrial Standard Test.

Test principle as a desiccant.

The PTFE film was hooped on a plastic cup with a rubber ring to make a water vapor-permeable cup.

Before the film was wrapped on the cup, enough liquid was placed into the water vapor permeable cup, filling the cup volume about 2/3.

Three 20 cm*30 cm square samples were taken from each fabric. Each sample was placed on a test stand.

All coating or laminate fabrics are secured to the support frame with a rubber ring and the coating or laminate faces outward.

The sample support system was installed in a water tank that was able to float in water at 23°C. After testing the quality of the test cup (including specimen, desiccant, and film) in the upward direction of the film, quickly turn the test cup upside down and place it in the sample holder. This assembly method is placed in a device with a constant temperature of 30 °C ± 2 °C.

After 15 minutes, the test cup was taken out of the thermostat, inverted and its weight measured.

The above is the most practical method for testing waterproof fabrics at home and abroad. Most of the waterproof fabrics that pass these test methods can achieve the effect of waterproof and moisture proof.
