In the first nine months of this year, Cambodia’s textile and apparel exports increased by 17%

In January-September 2010, Cambodia’s clothing and textile exports increased by approximately 17% to 2.27 billion U.S. dollars, compared with 1.94 billion U.S. dollars during the same period of last year, according to official data.

The Cambodian government officials said yesterday that this is a sign of the recovery of the global economy after the financial crisis.

The Deputy Minister of Commerce of Cambodia stated that after the release of new figures for the import and export quality control regulations in Cambodia, demand has risen rapidly.

Exports clearly show that there are 1.32 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for 58% of total exports of products exported to the United States, an increase of 13.3% year-on-year. Exports to the EU rose by 15.86% to $563.8 million, and exports to other foreign markets increased dramatically by 29% to $353.4 million.

The Deputy Minister of Commerce of Cambodia said that the regional market has achieved diversification, but other markets are still limited compared with the United States and the EU market. Exports to these markets are still very low, which is due to the Cambodian export tax exemption agreement for these markets, and there are many preferential deals for exports to the United States and the European Union. He said that with the recovery of the global economy, Cambodia’s exports will be able to grow again.
