Kean Etro has once again found the perfect match for his vibrant, chaotic, and energetic designs: the kaleidoscope. His latest invitation to the show was a pair of kaleidoscopic elements, with the backdrop featuring a massive rotating mandala curtain that seemed to pulse with life. As always, the runway was a riot of color, texture, and movement—everything on the stage exploded in a wild, fast-paced celebration of style. Stripes and plaids danced together playfully, while collars and cuffs clashed in a lively, colorful rebellion. A color-blocked plaid suit paired with a mosaic-patterned shirt was the epitome of Etro’s signature aesthetic—restrained yet indulgent.
This season, Kean took a different approach. He incorporated African-inspired beaded details into the pocket flaps of semi-formal tuxedos, and added exaggerated, puffed shoulders to baggy silhouettes. His ever-changing color palette wasn’t just about vibrancy—it was about cultural depth, which helped him break free from the monotony of traditional tailoring. Yet, there were still nods to old-world craftsmanship, like the double-breasted white linen coat—something that would have surely caught the eye of a 19th-century squire.
Some models even removed their shoes and walked barefoot across a stretch of white sand, adding an unexpected, almost ritualistic touch. Beaded patches at the elbows, mandala-covered shirts, and the presence of Kid Creole’s music all pushed the collection into a funky, surreal world—Funkytown, perhaps? I suspect Kean is having a lot of fun with this.
Another intriguing layer was the subtle influence Etro might have on digital design. Some paisley patterns looked as if they had been washed by rain, appearing slightly blurred and softer than usual. If I hadn’t seen murals before, I’d have been shocked to see these pieces from the Etro show.
