2016 photo mosaics

No matter where we live, we’re all connected through the shared passion for sewing, and this vibrant community thrives here on the Oliver + S blog. Together, we celebrate the joy of creating and the beauty of craftsmanship. Whether you’re a seasoned sewer or just starting out, we welcome you to share your projects and experiences with us. As we step into 2017, it’s inspiring to look back at the incredible achievements of 2016. Many of you crafted beautiful garments using our patterns, and we’re thrilled to see how these creations have brightened your lives. A perfect way to reflect on the past year is by assembling a photo mosaic of your sewing highlights. You’ll find plenty of inspiration in the Oliver + S Flickr group and on Instagram under #2016oliverands. If you haven’t already, consider adding your own photos—our community loves seeing what you’ve been working on! Take a moment to meet four passionate sewists who shared their reflections on 2016 and their aspirations for 2017. Their stories remind us of the endless possibilities within the world of sewing. First up is Sarah, known as sberseth on Flickr. In 2016, Sarah embraced sewing for herself, crafting tanks, shorts, and even a stunning Woodland Stroll cape that earned her不少 compliments. She also tailored adorable dresses for her daughters, many of which featured Oliver + S patterns. Sarah’s newfound confidence with knits, thanks to the Playtime dress, has opened up exciting opportunities for future projects. Laura, or @drlbennett on Instagram, marked 2016 as her breakthrough year in garment sewing. From baby leggings to her daughter’s Tea Party dress, Laura experimented with linings and discovered the satisfaction of creating practical yet stylish pieces. Her goal for 2017 is to craft more of her daughter’s wardrobe while honing her skills with the Bistro Dress. Hilde, known as iandvi on Instagram and @iandvi on Flickr, balanced her busy life to prioritize sewing. Her daughter’s growing input in fabric and pattern selection added a delightful twist to her projects. Hilde’s pride lies in the intricate details of her Jump Rope dress and Art Museum trousers, and she’s eager to dive deeper into knitting and tailoring in the coming year. Lastly, Maria, or mariajsanroman on Flickr, found her voice in sewing last year. Her family became the inspiration behind her creations, including a Gallery Tunic she treasures. With her new sewing machine gifted by the Three Kings, Maria hopes to carve out dedicated time each month to nurture her craft. Here’s to a new year filled with creativity, growth, and countless moments of joy. We’re excited to see what each of you achieves in 2017! If you're inspired to start your own photo mosaic or share your sewing journey, join us in celebrating the art of making. The possibilities are endless, and we’re here every step of the way. Happy sewing, and here's to a fantastic 2017!
