Revitalization of textile industry in Jiangsu will form trillion RMB industry scale after three years

The 11th Jiangsu International Fashion Festival kicked off grandly at the Nanjing International Exhibition Center on the 10th. Alongside the dazzling array of fashion collections, the strategic planning of Jiangsu's textile and apparel industry stood out prominently in the exhibition. The province aims to achieve an industrial scale exceeding one trillion RMB within three years, transitioning from being a "major textile province" to a true "textile powerhouse." Han Qinghua, Vice Secretary-General of the Jiangsu Provincial Government, noted that despite the significant impact of the global financial crisis, the textile industry in Jiangsu still managed to see a growth of around 8% in sales revenue and profits during the first half of this year. Jiangsu serves as a crucial hub for the production and export of textiles and garments in China, with over 10,400 large textile enterprises like Bosideng, Hongdou, Yalu, and Heilan Home gaining international recognition. In 2008, the province's textile industry recorded sales revenue of nearly 700 billion RMB, representing more than 20% of the national total and ranking first nationwide. With a total export value of $30.2 billion, it accounted for 16% of the national figure. As a sector that provides the highest number of jobs, the Jiangsu textile industry employs over two million people, generating over 20 billion RMB in rural household income annually. According to the "Adjustment and Revitalization Plan for Jiangsu's Textile Industry," by 2011, the province aims to achieve a labor productivity of $30,000 per person, approaching the level of moderately developed countries. The sales revenue target is set at 1.66 trillion RMB, reflecting an average annual growth rate of 15%, with 850 billion RMB already achieved this year. Jiangsu plans to foster ten enterprises with annual sales exceeding 10 billion RMB, forming industrial clusters in areas such as chemical fibers, cotton textiles, wool textiles, silk, printing and dyeing, apparel, home textiles, industrial textiles, and textile machinery. These efforts aim to create super-billion-dollar-scale industrial clusters. Additionally, more than 100 national brands—comprising 85 Chinese renowned brands and 25 China Famous Brands—are envisioned. Han Qinghua emphasized that while Jiangsu’s textile industry maintains its domestic leadership, it will also steadily increase its exports. By 2011, the province aims to have its total textile and apparel exports account for approximately 20% of the national total. As part of the industry revitalization plan, the festival served as a platform for enterprise exchanges and attracted participation from over 10 countries and regions, including more than 300 domestic and international apparel brands. Over the three-day festival, numerous events were organized, including trend showcases, brand launches, forums, and negotiations. This fashion festival not only highlights Jiangsu's commitment to innovation and quality but also underscores its resilience and adaptability in challenging times.
