Revitalization of textile industry in Jiangsu will form trillion RMB industry scale after three years

The 11th Jiangsu International Fashion Festival kicked off grandly at the Nanjing International Exhibition Center on the 10th. This event was not only a showcase of vibrant fashion but also highlighted the strategic planning of Jiangsu Province's textile and garment industry. The province aims to achieve an industrial scale exceeding one trillion RMB within three years, transitioning from being a "major textile province" to a "textile powerhouse." Han Qinghua, Deputy Secretary General of the Jiangsu Provincial Government, noted that despite the challenges posed by the global financial crisis, Jiangsu's textile and garment sector remains significantly impacted, standing among the most affected industries in the region. Nevertheless, with strong governmental support, the textile industry in the province saw a growth of approximately 8% in revenue and profit during the first half of the year. Jiangsu serves as a crucial hub for the production and export of textiles and garments in China. Renowned enterprises like Bosideng, Hongdou, Yalu, and Heilan Home have established their global presence. In 2008, the provincial textile industry generated sales revenue nearing 700 billion RMB, representing over 20% of the national textile industry and leading the nation. With a total export value of $30.2 billion, it accounted for 16% of the national share. As a significant employer, the textile industry in Jiangsu provides jobs for over two million people, generating more than 20 billion RMB in rural employment income annually. According to the "Adjustment and Revitalization Plan for Jiangsu’s Textile Industry," by 2011, the province aims to achieve a labor productivity of $30,000 per person, aligning closely with moderately developed countries. Sales revenue is projected to reach 1.66 trillion RMB, with an average annual increase of 15%, reaching 850 billion RMB this year. The plan outlines fostering ten enterprises with annual sales exceeding 10 billion RMB, forming key sectors including chemical fibers, cotton textiles, wool textiles, silk, printing and dyeing, clothing, home textiles, industrial textiles, and textile machinery. It also emphasizes creating super-billion-dollar industrial clusters. Additionally, over 100 national brands will be established, including 85 Chinese renowned brands and 25 Chinese famous brands. Han Qinghua emphasized that Jiangsu’s textile industry will continue to lead domestically while steadily increasing its exports. By 2011, the province aims to contribute about 20% of the nation's total textile and apparel exports. The festival served as a vital platform for enterprise exchanges, attracting over 10 countries and regions, along with more than 300 domestic and international apparel brands. Over the three-day event, activities such as trend showcases, brand launches, forums, and negotiations were held, engaging participants in a dynamic exchange of ideas and innovation.
